CWR participated in Sacramento’s yearly celebration of May Day. May Day or International Workers Day is celebrated around the world in recognition of the sacrifice workers have made in the fight for dignity, equity and justice.
At Sacramento’s commemoration of May Day, CWR engaged in community outreach handing out materials about workers’ rights, and other information to educate the community on how to best defend their dignity in the workplace. CWR also contributed to a community art piece on Capitol Mall in front of the federal immigration detention center. The display affirmed CWR’s commitment to immigration reform and for a better future. Sacramento’s unique proximity to the halls of power in the Golden State provides us the ability to consistently be on the front lines in workers’ rights struggles. The May Day celebration allows us to join with other grassroots efforts that are necessary to build a movement that has the capacity for victory, for all workers.
It is important for us to engage with the past history of the Labor movement so we can learn, grow and move forward in the continued struggle for equity and justice.
